Illustration Friday - Ice
Kubo and the Two Strings Laika The stop motion was completed using 3D printing. Travis knight was the director. He worked on other Laika projects such as Paranorman and Coraline. This movie was special because of its very large puppets, and it had the first fully 3D printed puppet in any stop motion animation. A lot of things make this interesting for me. I appreciate the style, and it just has very good writing. Personally, as a film maker, I could never make a stop motion animation, but Laika does it really well. This project was pretty cool but pretty hard at the same time. I had never done anything with illustrator before so I didn't understand the interface. It was interesting to see what you could do with just circles. If there was anything I would change about this project is probably just the basic shapes of stuff like the mustache and hair. I changed the hat just because I can.
I picked the product I did because I wanted to make a slightly obscure movie reference. To design my piece, I thought; "How do I get my product to sell in the market? Go way over the top." So the background color is a blue-ish grunge texture, with an explosion revealing the title on top of the epic back to the future shoes. If that doesn't catch a consumer's attention, I don't know what does. The most successful part of this project is how everything blends together. If I could change anything, I would make the title smaller so that it can be read easier.
Technology is being stupid so the picture isn't on here yet. Boy I can't wait for the robot overlords to take over.
This is my cheese castle. This is the fortress of the milkman. I came up with this idea because I wanted to make a really ridiculous structure. I decided to make a dairy castle with a milk lake next to it. To make it look realistic, I had to add a lot of shadows. The most notable being the shadow of the milk splash. Speaking of the milk splash, the cookie splashing into the milk was just added to show that it is milk. I played around with just making the water look like milk and it just looked like a white space. If I could change anything, I would add some more castle parts to the cheese, and probably add a bridge, but who knows. Maybe a castle with know way to reach the door is the best defense of them all.
